Description:
This Maury Sec is a powerful yet precise dry red wine that showcases the rugged character of the Roussillon landscape. Aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, and plum lead the way, followed by notes of garrigue herbs, cracked pepper, licorice, and subtle earth. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm but polished tannins and a core of dark fruit balanced by savory spice and mineral depth. The finish is long, dry, and expressive, reflecting both the sun-drenched climate and the old-vine character typical of the appellation.
Pairing Suggestions:
Pairs well with grilled lamb, herb-roasted pork, braised short ribs, or hearty vegetable dishes such as lentil stew or roasted mushrooms. Also complements aged cheeses and rustic Mediterranean fare.
Winemaker’s Note:
Crafted from low-yielding vines rooted in schist soils, this Maury Sec emphasizes balance, structure, and a clear sense of place. Careful vineyard management and restrained cellar techniques allow the fruit and terroir to speak clearly, resulting in a wine that is both expressive in its youth and capable of developing additional complexity over time.
Summary:
Domaine Cabirau Serge & Marie Maury Sec is a bold, structured dry red from Roussillon, offering concentrated dark fruit, savory complexity, and a distinctly mineral-driven finish—an authentic expression of Maury’s powerful terroir.
Review: Always a brilliant value as well as a terrific wine, the 2021 Maury Sec Serge & Marie is based largely on Grenache yet includes one-third Carignan. Black cherries, darker raspberries, dried violets, loamy earth, pepper, and sandalwood all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, soft tannins, and a great finish. This cuvée always shows the perfumed, riper style of Maury yet never comes across as heavy or cumbersome, and if anything, this 2021 could easily be mistaken for a beautiful Pinot Noir. It's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 7-8 years. 93 points. (reviewed at $20)" - Jeb Dunnuck 8/23
